Richmond Project
A beautifully finished interior in the heart of Richmond
This project saw our team carry out a full interior decoration of a spacious family home in Richmond, TW9. Working room by room, we delivered a consistent, high-quality finish throughout — from the main living areas through to the hallways and bedrooms.
Thorough preparation was key to achieving the smooth, lasting results the client was after. Premium materials and careful attention to detail ensured every surface was brought to an exceptional standard.
Why they called us
The client wanted a consistent finish across the whole house rather than a set of rooms decorated at different times to different standards — a common position in a family home that has been added to and repainted piecemeal over the years.
The family stayed in the property throughout, so the work was sequenced room by room around them, with each area contained while in use and cleared down at the end of the day.
Six weeks, one house
The programme ran for six weeks on site and covered:
- Walls and ceilings across the main living areas, bedrooms and hallways
- Skirting boards, architraves, doors and door frames
- Staircase and landing woodwork
- Window reveals and sills
Making a patched house flat again
Preparation took a substantial share of the time on site, which is what makes the difference between a repaint that looks good on handover and one that still looks good in five years. Existing coatings were checked room by room, loose material removed, and cracks, dents and nail holes filled and sanded flat. Repaired and previously bare areas were spot-primed so they would not show through the finish.
Where walls had been patched or re-plastered at different times, absorbency varied noticeably from one section to the next, so priming was adjusted surface by surface rather than applied at a uniform rate. Joints between woodwork and plaster were re-caulked for straight finished lines, and floors, fittings and furniture were sheeted and masked throughout with dust controlled at source during sanding.
Specification
Premium paints were specified according to what each surface has to withstand: a washable, durable finish through the hallways, stairs and living areas, and a tougher coating on the joinery, which takes the most day-to-day contact in a family house. Colours were confirmed on site under the property's own light before any full coat went on.
The result
The house now reads as a single scheme — even sheen across the walls, clean cut-in lines where colours meet, and joinery that looks newly fitted rather than repainted. On the last day the sheeting came up, the furniture went back, and the house was handed over ready to live in.
We work across Richmond, Putney, Wimbledon and the wider south west London area. See more of our interior painting and decorating work, or browse the full Modernus portfolio.
