SW6 Fulham Project

Exterior Painting Fulham, SW6 Residential

A full exterior transformation of a period property in Fulham

This project involved a complete exterior decoration of a large Victorian terraced property in Fulham, SW6. Our team carried out thorough preparation of all external surfaces — stripping, filling, and priming — before applying a premium exterior paint system built to withstand the British climate.

From the rendered facade and timber sash windows to the decorative cornicing and front entrance, every element was treated with the same care and precision that defines our approach to all exterior work.

What the owner wanted sorted

The client wanted the exterior of their Victorian terrace properly restored rather than simply refreshed — the underlying problems dealt with, the timber made sound, and a coating system put on that would not need revisiting in two or three years.

Exterior painting in Fulham SW6 usually means a terraced elevation on a residential street: scaffold has to be arranged around neighbours and parking, and the finished colour has to sit sensibly alongside the houses either side. All of that was agreed before work began.

Ten weeks on the front

The programme ran for ten weeks on site and covered:

  • Rendered facade, prepared, repaired and fully recoated
  • Timber sash windows, frames, sills and glazing beads
  • Front entrance door, porch and surround
  • Decorative cornicing, string courses and moulded render detail
  • Front boundary wall, railings and external metalwork

Timber repair and render

Preparation was the largest part of the programme, and it is where the durability of an exterior finish is actually decided. Failing paint was stripped back to a sound edge and the substrate underneath inspected rather than overcoated: cracks in the render were raked out and filled, and timber showing decay — most often at the bottom rails and cills of the sashes, where water sits — was cut out, repaired and made good before priming.

Every surface was washed down to remove the atmospheric soiling and organic growth that cause a new coating to fail early in London. Bare and repaired areas were primed with a product matched to the material beneath, since render, timber and metal each require a different one. Coats were scheduled around the weather so nothing was applied to a damp surface or left unable to cure, and pavements, planting and neighbouring properties were protected throughout.

What we put on it

A premium exterior paint system built for the British climate was specified — flexible enough to move with the substrate through the seasonal cycle, and applied over the correct primer for each material. The masonry, joinery and metalwork were each given their own specification rather than being finished in a single product.

How it came out

The facade reads as a single even surface with the moulded detail sharp and legible, the sash windows sound and cleanly finished, and the whole elevation sitting properly within the terrace. The coating system is specified to hold up against the weather rather than just to look right on handover day.
